Bit by the inspiration bug, I designed this happy couple, before even realizing that I do not know enough about what native Americans used to wear. (I do know that the different tribes did not have the same culture and clothing.) I have only met one Indian in my life, as far as I know, and she looked like anybody else in blue jeans. This design is nothing but my "mind picture" of an Indian, made up of memories from children's books.
I then searched the Web for pictures, but didn't find any good ones. I did find web pages written by Indians and telling how annoyed they are by people who don't know anything about their culture, and especially by New Age people and such, who think they know Indian culture and mix some of it in their New Age soup kettle.
I fully understand that point of view. A "Swede" in American movies is often a young blond bimbo by the name of Inga. (Not very many people in Sweden go by the name of Inga, especially not young people. Maria and Anna are far more common female names.) She speaks with a heavy accent when she speaks English, when she speaks Swedish, and even when she says her own name. In one movie, the "Swedish" woman spoke Norweigan. Movies like that annoy me.
So just take this picture of my mind for what it is.
